#RespectFood - reservations are available to Restaurant Week Poland Spring 2019! Restaurant Week - a festival of the best restaurants is Poland’s biggest and most popular culinary event. Around 400 establishments from 35 Polish cities are participating in the festival’s upcoming spring edition. The organisers are expecting as many as 100 thousand visitors. The theme of this year’s festival will be fighting food waste.

The organisers’ inspiration was the first ever Polish visit of world famous chef and restaurateur, Massimo Bottura who was in Warsaw in February as part of the Fine Dining Week. His non-profit Food for Soul project and the #RespectFood idea in cooperation with GRUNDIG are based on the zero-waste philosophy. During his visit to Poland, owner of Osteria Francescana*** (the world’s only three Michelin star restaurant) promoted the #RespectFood movement and underlined the fact that irrational food production and consumption are responsible for the third of the world’s climate problems.

Over a third of the world’s food is being wasted - according to World Resources Institute “Champions 12.3” report created for the UN, each of us produces around 200 kgs of food waste a year. This year’s Restaurant Week festival is in the spirit of #RespectFood - the smart online reservation system allows for no food waste, as thanks to it the participating restaurants know exactly how many guests are coming and which menu items they will have, and this in turn allows them to buy and use the exact amount of ingredients needed. This will also allow the restaurant to save money in the long run as each dollar invested into saving food gives seven dollars return. The UN’s aim for the following years is to limit global food waste by half.

The upcoming spring edition of the festival (April 3-17, reservations open March 10) is entirely dedicated to promoting respect for food and ways to limit food waste. Restaurant Week has thus joined leading initiatives promoting mindful eating and systematic limiting of food waste as a state-of-the-art platform for promoting independent restaurant scene in the country as well as one of the biggest restaurant festivals in the world. Nearly 400 restaurants from 35 cities will participate in the festival. Many of them have prepared special show menus based on the zero-waste philosophy. Among festival novelties in Poznań there are, among many others, Massimiliano Ferre, Panpanini, Salon z Ogrodem, Milano, Papavero, Asian Street Food, Republika Róż.

Each festival guest will have the chance to win a LOT Polish Airlines flight to Italy and - thanks to the participating brand, GRUNDIG - a two person dinner at Osteria Francescana*** - the world’s most popular restaurant with the reservation waiting list of several tens of thousands from all over the globe. All there is to do is take part in the festival and upload a photo according to the instructions found on the table in each of the participating restaurants. For restaurant reviewers there is the prize of a LOT Polish Airlines flight to Miami and taking part in the Miami Spice restaurant festival. To be in for a chance of winning, you have to review your visit at a given participating restaurant in the festival online reservation system.
