Missionary and Ethnography Museum in Chludowo
It is run by the Divine Word Missionaries and located in the Mission House in a converted country residence from the second half of the 19th century. The museum was established in 1994 and presents collections from missionary assignments in China, India, Papua New Guinea and Nigeria, and among those are everyday objects, clothes and religious accessories.
Part of the museum’s exhibition is devoted to Father Marian Żelazek, the Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Suchy Las county honorary citizen who has been working in India for 55 years. Chludowo is also home to the valued, larch-wood All Saints parish church. This aisleless church with its two chapels was erected in 1736, after the previous church in this location was destroyed by a fire in 1710. The church was founded by the Owińska cistercian nuns. Among its rich interiors, a noteworthy item is the 16th century painting of Madonna and Child with St. Wojciech and St Nicholas, painted on a lime-tree board and place in the church’s left chevet.
